Course Participation & Professional Boundaries

Rhodes to Wellness Coaching – Equimotional Coaches Course
Last updated: September 2026

Our Approach

The Equimotional Coaches Course is designed to be a supportive, respectful and professionally focused learning environment.

Because the course explores topics such as vulnerability, safeguarding, trauma-informed care, grief, loss and emotional wellbeing, conversations may sometimes feel personal or meaningful. Students are welcome to reflect on their own experiences, but personal disclosure is never required in order to participate or complete the course.

The following guidelines help create a learning environment where students can learn, ask questions, share appropriately and maintain healthy professional boundaries.

1. Respectful Participation

Students are expected to treat one another, the educator and any guest contributors with respect.

This includes:

  • Listening when others are speaking;

  • Allowing space for different perspectives and experiences;

  • Asking questions respectfully;

  • Avoiding judgement, ridicule or dismissive comments;

  • Respecting differences in beliefs, backgrounds, identities and lived experiences;

  • Allowing others to participate at their own comfort level.

Healthy disagreement is welcome. Personal attacks are not.

2. Personal Sharing and Vulnerability

The course may naturally invite reflection and personal discussion.

Students may share personal experiences if they genuinely wish to, but there is no expectation to disclose trauma, abuse, grief or other sensitive experiences.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Share only what feels appropriate for them;

  • Notice their own limits;

  • Take a break when needed;

  • Say “pass” when they do not wish to answer a question;

  • Respect another student's decision not to share.

A student's personal story belongs to them. It should not become a subject of discussion outside the learning environment without their permission.

3. Confidentiality Within the Group

Students are expected to respect the privacy of their fellow students.

Personal stories, disclosures or sensitive information shared during the course should not be repeated outside the group.

However, students should understand that confidentiality within a group setting cannot be absolutely guaranteed. Rhodes to Wellness Coaching cannot control what another participant may later share.

For this reason, students are encouraged to use discretion when deciding what personal information they share.

4. Professional Boundaries

The relationship between educator and student is a professional learning relationship.

Students are expected to maintain appropriate boundaries with the educator and with one another.

This includes being mindful of:

  • The nature and frequency of private communication;

  • Personal requests outside the course;

  • Social media interactions;

  • Physical or emotional boundaries;

  • Requests for individual coaching or support during course time;

  • Sharing another person's personal information.

The educator may redirect conversations or requests that fall outside the purpose or scope of the course.

5. The Course Is Not Personal Therapy

Although course material may touch on deeply personal subjects, the Equimotional Coaches Course is an educational and professional development programme.

It is not intended to provide psychotherapy, counselling, crisis intervention or individual treatment.

Students are not expected to process their own unresolved trauma as part of the course.

If course material brings up something that feels overwhelming or requires personal therapeutic support, students are encouraged to seek appropriate support outside the course.

6. Respect for Different Experiences

There is no requirement for every student to have the same understanding, experience or response to a topic.

Students may come from different professional backgrounds and have different lived experiences.

The course environment should allow for curiosity and respectful discussion rather than pressure to agree.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and explore ideas without fear of being shamed for not already knowing something.

7. Communication Outside Class

Students may communicate with the educator regarding course administration, learning questions and appropriate course-related matters.

The educator may establish reasonable boundaries around communication outside scheduled class time, including response times and the types of support that can appropriately be provided by email or private message.

Course communication should remain respectful and professional.

8. Social Media and Online Connections

Students may choose to connect with one another outside the course, but participation in social media groups, friendships or other personal relationships is not a requirement of the course.

Students should not:

  • Share another student's personal information without permission;

  • Post screenshots of private course conversations;

  • Record or publicly share course discussions without permission;

  • Use another student's disclosure or personal story for promotional purposes.

Students are responsible for maintaining appropriate boundaries in their own online interactions.

9. Recording and Course Materials

Students may not record, reproduce or distribute live course sessions, course discussions or course materials without permission.

Course materials are provided for the enrolled student's learning and professional development and must not be shared, resold or distributed without appropriate permission.

Any permitted recording or use of course material remains subject to the course's Terms & Conditions and intellectual property requirements.

10. Participation Expectations

Students are encouraged to participate actively in discussions, activities and learning exercises.

Participation does not mean that students must speak during every class or disclose personal information.

Appropriate participation may include:

  • Listening;

  • Asking questions;

  • Contributing to discussions;

  • Completing learning activities;

  • Reflecting privately;

  • Participating in group exercises where comfortable.

Students who need to step away from a discussion or class are encouraged to communicate this where possible.

11. Maintaining a Safe Learning Environment

Rhodes to Wellness Coaching reserves the right to address behaviour that negatively affects the safety or learning environment of the group.

This may include behaviour that is:

  • Harassing or threatening;

  • Discriminatory;

  • Bullying or intimidating;

  • Repeatedly disruptive;

  • Inappropriate or sexually inappropriate;

  • Deliberately disrespectful;

  • In breach of confidentiality.

Where appropriate, concerns will first be addressed through communication and clarification. More serious or ongoing concerns may result in restrictions on participation or removal from the course in accordance with the Course Terms & Conditions.

12. Boundaries Around Support

The educator will offer appropriate support within the scope of the course.

However, the educator cannot be available as a student's personal therapist, crisis support person or on-call emotional support outside the course.

Students remain responsible for seeking appropriate professional or emergency support when their needs fall outside the scope of the course.

13. Concerns or Boundary Issues

If a student feels uncomfortable about something that has occurred during the course, they are encouraged to raise the concern.

Concerns may relate to:

  • Another student's behaviour;

  • Something said during a class;

  • Confidentiality;

  • Professional boundaries;

  • The educator's conduct;

  • The learning environment.

Concerns will be treated respectfully and handled in accordance with the Student Complaints Procedure and, where appropriate, the Safeguarding Policy.

Students will not be penalised simply for raising a genuine concern.

14. Shared Responsibility

Creating a safe and respectful learning environment is a shared responsibility.

As the educator, I am responsible for modelling appropriate professional boundaries, creating a respectful learning environment and addressing concerns appropriately.

Students are responsible for participating in a way that respects themselves, their peers and the integrity of the course.

The goal is not perfection. It is creating a learning space where people can ask questions, learn from one another and grow professionally while still respecting healthy boundaries.
